Blogging Debut

"I want to start a blog"
"seriously? You’re one of those?"
"one of what? What’s wrong with a blog?"
"nothing… what is this blog going to be about? Who’s going to read it?"
"I don't know, my life ? and anyone who cares about my life can read it!"
"why don't you just share your life on facebook ?"
"because! It’s just… it’s not the same!

Suffice it to say, I haven’t really given much more thought about what this blog is going to be about, who would really want to read it, or how to make those people want to keep reading it. But also I don’t really care. If you want to know what’s going on in my life, I’ll try to keep you updated. If you get bored half way through a post, close it. I wont even be upset.

You probably know that I just moved to Hawaii. “Ooh Hawaii! How awesome! Lucky girl!” Well yes, it is pretty awesome. But also it was a huge pain in the butt. Like logistically speaking, moving across an ocean is hard work. Having only memories of moving less than 5 miles down the road, the thought of moving all my stuff so far was daunting. You can’t exactly put it in a truck and just drive to your new home on an island. I had to pack my things up and mail them to our house in Hawaii. So that was an adventure (read 'expensive pain in the butt')… Here is where Quincey would probably say something to the affect of “poor me, my life is so hard, I have to live in Hawaii!” and I would punch her. Because that's not what I’m saying. I am very lucky to get this chance, and I am so ecstatic. But moving is hard work, dangit!

Anyway. Allan was able to move into our house about a week before I got here. Not wanting to start buying things without me, he bought only what he felt was necessary to tide him over until I got here. Meaning a tv and a mattress. His first night he went to take a shower& then realized shower curtains were also a somewhat important part of a house, so he got one of those too. But that was pretty much it when I got here, so the day after I got here we got started on making our home, aka: shopping for dayyyyys.

Hours of grocery shopping, multiple furniture store visits, deliveries and assemblies, way too many trips to various stores for “just one more thing”, my boxes arrived and got unpacked, Allan put his things (mostly) away… and finally our big empty house started feeling like a home. And I love it.

this is our home :)

The first floor is just garage and a stairway leading up to the main floor.
If you could see into those two big windows on the main floor you'd be looking into our living room& could watch tv with us if you felt like it. The tiny window looks into a weird little nook, that no one likes, that overlooks the entry stairway. Its a useless nook...

not from your view at the window, but here's our living room

Also on the main floor is the kitchen, dining room

Someday I will paint that chunk above the cabinets yellow.
Probably while Allan is at work and can’t stop me...
(“we’re only going to be here a year, what’s the point of painting the house?”
I’m a girl and I want a yellow kitchen, that’s the point.)

laundry room, a half bath and our tiny little patio.
The forward most window on the top floor is one of the extra rooms (currently a tornado of Allan's uniforms and boots and books and boxes). The left side window that is set back a bit is the other spare room (currently not a disaster area of my own empty boxes. ahem). The other set back window is our neighbors, I don't know what's in there.
Also on the top floor is a full bathroom and then our room and bathroom on the back side of the house.

As you might have noticed, all our floors are linoleum. The entire house. All over. Which is kind of terrible looking- before we got any furniture it felt like a big empty retail store- but its pretty easy to clean. Also we didn't have to buy a vacuum, which was another plus...
I don't have any pictures or decorations hung because  I don't own any  we have to get permission to put holes in the walls. But someday I'll get around to that...

Sorry (not sorry) about the long huge post without a single picture of Hawaii as a reward for making it to the end. But don't fret, I'm already planning a post about that. Someday we'll go have beautiful Hawaiian adventures and I'll taunt you all with billions of pictures.
